Asylum is available to people who have fled their home country and are unable to return due to persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

General Requirements:
• Be physically present in the United States.
• Demonstrate credible fear of persecution.
• Submit the asylum application within one year of entering the United States, with some exceptions.
